F06T26 - While the night

“While a deep silence enveloped all things, and the night was halfway through its course” Sap. 18.14

It is the point of maximum darkness and, symbolically, the moment of greatest difficulty or trial. The situation is at its worst, but this is precisely where a turning point, an epiphany, or divine intervention occurs. There is a light that pierces the darkness, represented in the chasuble in the light beam that descends from the shoulder towards the centre of the vestment.
The God of history becomes flesh! In the silence that envelops all the things that God speaks to his people.
The priest who dresses himself in this chasuble dresses himself in the community that contemplates the mystery of the Incarnation.
